Kowie Museum Fundraising Events

28th and 29th December 2021

The Kowie Museum showcases the rich and diverse history of the area. From indigenous people, the 1820 settlers, to modern day developments, the museum offers a unique glimpse into what makes Port Alfred so special. Jonathan Leeming is pleased to be able to contribute to preserving the history of Port Alfred through this fundraising event. 

This event is being held at the Mansfield Private Game Reserve.  Final location of the beginning of the walk will be communicated nearer the date to all participants. 

Creepy Crawly Walk

8am to 10am, 28th December 2021, Port Alfred

Fundraising event for the Kowie Museum.

Join author and conservationist Jonathan Leeming for a walk in Port Alfred exploring the environment for all kinds of creepy crawlies. This is a family event suitable for all ages. This event teaches respect for all creatures and an understanding for all aspects of the environment.

During the walk, Jonathan will touch upon the following

  • Natural history
  • Behaviour
  • Distributions
  • Identification
  • Value of creepy crawlies
  • Track and signs.
  • Biomimicry.

This event is being held at the Mansfield Private Game Reserve. Distance for the walk will be about 2km. Final location of the beginning of the walk will be communicated nearer the date to all participants. 

What to bring along?

  • Water and a snack. 
  • Wear reasonable shoes.
  • Sunscreen and hat. 

Please note

  • Children up to 12 years of age R70. Children 13 years and older R100.
  • All must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • This event will go ahead regardless of the weather. 
  • Limited to 25 participants.

This event is a family event suitable for all ages.

Join author and conservationist Jonathan Leeming for a walk in the Kap River Nature Reserve in search of spiders and scorpions. This event is suitable for ages 13 years and older. During the walk, Jonathan will touch upon the following

  • Identification.
  • Natural history
  • Behaviour
  • Distributions
  • Venom.
  • Track and signs.
  • Biomimicry and biotechnology. 
  • First response for spider bites and scorpion stings. 

This event is being held at the Mansfield Private Game Reserve. Distance for the walk will be about 2km. Final location of the beginning of the walk will be communicated nearer the date to all participants.
