Mozambique Thick-Tail Scorpion

The Mozambique Thick-Tail Scorpion (Parabuthus mossambicensis), is a medium scorpion with an average length of 60mm to 70mm in length. Overall orange to orange-brown in coloration. Tail segments will granular keels. Prefers flat areas where it shelters under surface debris such as rocks and logs. Often seen at night on roads and open areas. This scorpion is very mobile in the environment, resulting in encounters with humans and animals. Readily stridulates when threatened.

Quick to use secondary defensive behaviour, stings from this medium sized, highly venomous species are uncommon. A sting from this species is associated with red flags and typically results in class 3 or 4 symptoms.
