Based upon the contents of the Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Book, this first response framework offers a new symptom classification scheme that defines boundaries, indicates response, the progression of symptoms and timeframes, how to recognise symptoms that can be treated using first aid, and when professional medical intervention is required.
This distance learning course offers self study in the participants own time and at their own pace. It consists of a training manual, workbook and remote support. Workbooks are assessed and a certificate issued. All participants will receive a certificate and supporting resources. First aid protocols are given to all participants. Medical professionals receive the Afritox Scorpion Envenomation Guidelines. Estimated 23 hours of study time.

Distance Learning Course Packs are couriered to the individual/ organisation. After registering the workbooks, the participants are added to a coaching WhatsApp Support Group specific to that organisation. A deadline for completion is agreed upon. The workbook is completed in their own time and at their own pace according to this deadline. During the distance learning course, participants are free to ask questions, request explanations, send photos for identification. This group is also used to offer coaching and motivation during the course. Supporting resources are given.
Workbooks are couriered for assessment. Certificates are printed and couriered together with workbooks to the individual or organisation.
Although the in person Course trains individuals in a short period of time, the advantage of distance learning include lower cost of training without disrupting their work schedule. Participants study in their own time and at their own pace, and have a direct line to interact with Jonathan for questions, to post photos for identification and receive encouragement. Distance Learning includes a copy of the Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Book which can be referred to later.

Both courses are based upon the Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course. The in person course is 3 hours in duration and because of time constraints focuses upon the key topics in the book. The Distance Learning course is more comprehensive and covers everything in the book.

Yes, all participants get their own copy of the Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Book. Everyone also receives supporting resources that highlight the important components of first response as well as first aid protocols. Medical professionals receive AfriTox scorpion envenomation guidelines.
This course is aimed at professional individuals who are expected to assist in the event of a scorpion sting. These individuals include lodge staff, field guides, medical professionals and anyone living or working in an area where scorpion stings occur.
Yes, the workbooks courier to Jonathan for assessed. Note that workbooks and certificates are courier back to the participants after assessment.
Depending on my schedule, workbooks are assessed within 4 days of receipt. Courier to a location in South Africa takes about 4 days. For countries outside of South Africa, delivery time depends on the country and location or the organisation.
Yes, all participants will receive a certificate after the course. Participants who achieve 80% or more receive a certificate of achievement, Less than 80% receives a certificate of completion. Certificates are printed and couriered together with workbooks to the lodge/ organisation. Supporting resources are given.
The course content is taken directly from the book. You are welcome to purchase a copy of the book and workbook and have it couriered to your location. Please note that support will not be given, the workbook will not be assessed, and a certificate will not be issued. However, you will get supporting resources and first aid protocols. Medical professionals receive the AfriTox Scorpion Envenomation Guidelines. You are welcome to manage the training in house.
