Science based innovative first response

The spider bite and scorpion sting first aid workshop is an exploration of the environment during which you’ll get to have a look at look at spiders and scorpions that inhabit the area. We’ll have a short lecture with visuals on medically important spiders and scorpions and their bites and stings. This workshop offers participants a fundamental understanding of spider bites and scorpion stings including identification, symptoms, first aid and where to get free medical advice if you ever need it.

The Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Course offers a new and innovative science-based first response framework that addresses the burden of scorpion stings in Southern Africa, by offering individuals the knowledge and understanding to assume a leadership role in their local community. The course consists of a presentation, interactive workshop, supporting resources, assessment and certificate.

Scorpion Sting First Response Distance Learning

Distance learning at your own pace, anytime & anyplace

Distance learning consists of the Essential Scorpion Sting First Response Book and Workbook. Participants are able to self study in their own time and at their own pace. Distance learning can be facilitated onsite or workbooks can be sent for assessment and certificates are issued. Distance learning offers cost effective training in remote locations.

Arachnid Course

Professional Development

The Arachnid Course offers practical activities in the area of operation. It focuses upon the 4 major groups of arachnids in a natural setting. Suitable for multi-day training such as lodge training, field guide training and environmental training organisations. Fieldwork activities focus upon the natural history of these animals and include pitfall traps, identification workshop, first response, medical importance and much more.

Venom Day

Education that saves lives

Join Jonathan Leeming for a question and answer session focusing upon venomous animals and their bites and stings. The idea is simple. Participants ask the questions and Jonathan and panel members will answer them. These questions will be used to direct the conversation during the session. Anything venom related goes, from bites and stings, how venom works, antivenom manufacture, first response, allergic reactions to venom, biotechnology, the latest research and more.
